Basic Background

My comfy at-home clothing

On the Internet, I go by the alias of Rilla. This online alias has been with me since 2003.

I was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in January 1990. In January 1998 our family immigrated to New Zealand (Auckland). Frankly, I don't miss my home country. Aside from the nice and cheap food, I cannot stand the pollution, overly-large population, ugly buildings and that forever dark grey sky.

Too lazy for all the writing that comes after this? Fanlistings provides a graphical presentation of my interests and style that sums up a whole lot of the following up.

Or if you have the time: Hobbies and Interests, Education, Language, Music/Movies, Romance.

Hobbies and Interests

I guess what stands out as obvious is my interest in web design . (Read about me As a "Web Designer") To expand that a bit more, I have always enjoyed art; a big part of that derives from family genes. Other than art and design, I have a various range of hobbies and interests. Indoors at home by myself, I like anything that allows myself to relax. deviantART is one of my favourite websites to visit as I enjoy the expression of different emotions through art, reading and writing—and along with that, music, movies, sleeping and day-dreaming.

To move things a little, pool/snooker has been my favourite game for several years and I also like table tennis and volleyball. As a side note, men cannot be considered as a "hobby" of mine but they can be interesting.

Education

My chosen path of studies and future career has no direct ties with art nor web design. I am currently a second-year student studying conjoint Laws and Commerce at The University of Auckland. In particular, I plan to major in International Economics for my Commerce side.

Languages

Oh you know what I'm writing in—English.

Being born and lived in Taiwan for several years during my childhood, I am fluent in the reading and speaking of Mandarin. Sure, I can write, but most of the time I get stuck so I usually type the words out on the computer then copy them onto paper.

Having enjoyed numerous Cantonese dramas over the recent years, I can also comprehend Cantonese up to a certain extent. I can speak it too, but my friends have trouble keeping a straight face hearing my "wonky" accent.

I also learnt Japanese in high school for three-and-a-half years, but I think that remains at Japanese elementary school level. Spoken at a reasonable pace, I can generally understand it.

Music/Movies

Music-wise, I listen to a wide range. For this reason, I love movie soundtracks. In one movie, there would usually be a whole variety of different types of music whereas in a whole album by one particular singer/band, the songs may be of the same style with half of them I consider as boring so I usually pick out a couple of songs from each album. For the music I listen to, check out my Last.fm profile.

Movies-wise, I love musicals and drama; less of a fan for action and horror because I fail in extracting deeper meanings from them. In particular, I like Phantom of the Opera, Moulin Rouge, The Last Samurai, Happy Feet, The Lakehouse, Catch Me If You Can, Perfume and Step Up.

Romance

Since 2001, I have averaged one boyfriend per year up to present. I can't help being a complete failure in prolonging relationships with my shortest tie being one week and my longest standing at five months. (My sister however, is still with her first boyfriend of seven or eight years). However, I'd like to experience a serious long-term relationship. I would express my feelings for a boyfriend over time as a logarithmic function while my previous partners all seemed to have an inverted parabola depicting their feelings for me over time. It could be my fault, but let's just lay the blame on the men.

Currently um... Single, I guess.
